Russell Anderson Foundation

Our Founder

The Russell Anderson Foundation improves the lives of children in socially deprived areas of Aberdeen through life-changing programmes that make a sustainable and measurable difference to their health and wellbeing. And who better to inspire and lead them than a professional footballer who has achieved so much on and off the field?

Russell Anderson

Aberdeen born Russell joined Aberdeen Football Club as a young 16 year old defender in the summer of 1996 from Dyce Juniors. In the 2005-06 season, he won the most league man-of-the-match awards from BBC Radio Scotland's Sportsound. He went on to make over 400 appearances during his playing career with clubs such as Sunderland, Plymouth Argyle and Derby County. He returned for a second spell at Aberdeen in 2011 becoming only the 6th captain in the club's history to lift a trophy when the Dons won the Scottish League Cup in 2014. He made his full Scotland debut in 2002 and went on to play 11 times for his country.
"I'm extremely fortunate to have enjoyed playing football for such a big part of my life and I've seen the difference that sport can make to children's lives.

I've been asked many times, why sport, why not just give food or money?

Well, the Foundation isn't all about handouts. It's about giving children in socially deprived areas the tools they need to build a brighter future for themselves.

This charity is using the power of sports, along with nutrition and coaching, to educate and improve the lives of these children. By teaching them important life skills like teamwork, discipline, and healthy habits, these children are not just improving their physical health, but also their mental health and overall well-being.

Plus, let's be honest, have you ever tried to teach a child maths using a textbook? It's like trying to teach a cat to swim. But teach them maths through sport? Suddenly they're calculating angles like it's second nature.
And let me tell you, these children aren't just learning maths and science, they're also becoming some pretty talented athletes. Under the expert guidance of our brilliant team, they're kicking balls like pros and scoring goals like champions. I mean, have you seen a group of 10-year-olds playing football like it's the World Cup? It's like watching a pack of mini Messi's in action.

So, if you want to support a charity that's about making a real difference, I guarantee the Foundation will use your money wisely and give these children the tools they need to succeed and build a brighter future for themselves and their communities."
